Issue #206: A Heads Up About Fake Calls Hitting Plumbing Offices

IPPC-The-Blink-logo
Hey there,
We wanted to flag an issue that has been popping up in plumbing offices across multiple markets.
Several plumbers have r eported repeated calls coming from the same phone number:
833-410-1092 with caller name “Google” or “Google Maps”
The calls usually sound legitimate. Pricing questions. Availability checks. Different callers each time, but always the same number. That is exactly why many receptionists hesitated to mark them as spam.
After comparing notes across accounts, we can confirm these calls are spam.
Immediate Steps to Take
If you receive a suspicious call like this, please follow Google’s official safety guidelines:
  1. Do Not Press Any Buttons: If an automated voice asks you to “Press 1 to speak to a representative,” do not do it. This confirms to the bot that a human is on the line, leading to more spam calls.
  2. Hang Up Immediately: If the caller threatens your listing or asks for payment, end the call.
  3. Block the Number:
  • iPhone: Tap the “i” icon next to the number > Scroll down to “Block this Caller.”
  • Android: Long press the number in your call log > Select “Block/Report Spam.”
  • If this number is coming through on the Client’s answering service, phone system, or call-tracking system, it should be blocked at that level.
Letting these calls through wastes staff time, pollutes call data, and creates unnecessary confusion at the front desk.
If you are unsure how to block numbers inside your call tracking or phone system, now is a good time to review those controls with your white-label provider.
Agencies! If you are seeing odd call patterns or questionable leads in your client’s CRM, act fast! These small issues add up quickly if they go unchecked.
Talk to you next week,
