Issue #233: LSAs Just Got a Major Update

Hey there,
Local Services Ads Are Moving Into Performance Max. Here’s Why Agencies Should Pay Attention.
Google just announced one of the biggest changes to Local Services Ads since the product launched.
Over the coming months, Local Services Ads will gradually move into the Google Ads platform as a specialized Performance Max campaign built specifically for pay-per-lead advertisers. The rollout begins with select U.S. home service businesses this August before expanding further.
At first glance, it looks like an interface update.
It isn’t.
This is another clear signal that Google wants every advertising product to live under one AI-driven ecosystem. Search campaigns, Performance Max, AI Max, Smart Bidding, and now Local Services Ads are all moving in the same direction.
For agencies managing local service businesses, now is the time to understand what this means.
What Isn’t Changing
The good news is that many of the things your clients care about will remain the same.
  • Businesses will still pay only for valid leads, not clicks.
  • Ads will continue appearing on Google Search and Google Maps.
  • Campaigns will still target service categories and service areas instead of keywords.
  • Google Business Profile will remain a critical part of how Local Services Ads perform.
From the client’s perspective, leads should continue flowing the same way.
What Is Changing
Behind the scenes, there are several important changes agencies should prepare for.
Everything moves into Google Ads.
Instead of managing Local Services Ads in a separate dashboard, agencies will manage budgets, targeting, reporting, and lead management directly inside Google Ads.
Historical reporting will not migrate.
Once an account is migrated, previous campaign reports won’t automatically come with it. Agencies should export historical performance reports before migration so long-term performance data isn’t lost.
Bidding becomes more standardized.
Some legacy bidding options will disappear as Google aligns Local Services Ads with its broader automation framework. Campaign-level optimization becomes increasingly important.
Why This Matters for Agencies
This isn’t just another Google interface update.
It’s another reminder that Google’s automation is becoming increasingly dependent on quality account data.
The agencies that succeed over the next few years won’t be the ones making the most bid adjustments.
They’ll be the ones who:
  • Keep Google Business Profiles accurate and active.
  • Track lead quality consistently.
  • Organize campaigns cleanly.
  • Feed Google’s automation better data than their competitors.
We’ve been talking about this trend throughout 2026.
Every major Google update seems to point toward the same destination.
Less manual optimization. More AI. Higher importance on accurate business data.
What You Should Do Right Now
If you manage Local Services Ads for clients, here’s your checklist:
  1. Export historical LSA reports before migration.
  2. Verify your clients’ Google Business Profiles are complete and up to date.
  3. Review service categories and service areas for accuracy.
  4. Prepare clients for the new Google Ads management experience.
  5. Continue focusing on lead quality, not simply lead volume.
The agencies that prepare early will have a much smoother transition than those who wait until Google’s migration email lands in their inbox.
Our Take
We actually like this change.
Managing Search, Performance Max, and Local Services Ads from one platform should make agency operations more efficient over time. More importantly, it reinforces something we’ve believed for years.
Google is building toward one intelligent advertising ecosystem.
The agencies that embrace that reality, instead of fighting it, will be in the strongest position over the next few years.
