Issue #245: Your Clients’ 2027 Plans Should Start Now

It’s October.
And while most businesses are focused on finishing the year strong, smart agencies should already be talking to their clients about 2027.
Not just about budgets.
About where their next wave of revenue will come from.
Because here’s what often happens.
December rolls around. The client asks, “How much should we spend on Google Ads next year?”
The agency looks at this year’s numbers, adds a little to the budget, and calls it a plan.
But increasing the budget isn’t a growth strategy.
Start With What Actually Made Money
Let’s say you’re managing Google Ads for a plumbing company.
Drain cleaning campaigns are bringing in plenty of leads. The cost per lead looks great.
But what if water heater installations generate significantly more profit for the business?
Should next year’s marketing strategy prioritize getting more drain cleaning calls just because those leads are cheaper?
Not necessarily.
The same applies to HVAC companies. A campaign generating maintenance calls might look fantastic in a Google Ads report, but the business could be more interested in selling new system installations.
The services generating the most leads aren’t always the services generating the most profit.
And that’s a conversation agencies need to have with their clients before setting next year’s budgets.
Four Conversations to Have With Your Clients Now
1. Which services were actually profitable in 2026?
Go beyond cost per lead. Ask about booked jobs, revenue, and profit margins. Find out which services the client wants to grow.
2. When did demand peak, and when did it slow down?
Look at seasonal patterns. A roofing company preparing for storm season or an HVAC company approaching its busiest months shouldn’t be making budget decisions at the last minute.
3. Where did the leads go?
Review what happened after someone called or submitted a form. Were calls missed? Did leads turn into appointments? Did the business have the capacity to handle more work?
You might discover that the biggest growth opportunity isn’t more traffic. It’s converting more of the leads they’re already getting.
4. What does the client want to accomplish in 2027?
Expand into a new service area? Push a more profitable service? Reduce reliance on seasonal work? Add another crew?
Those answers should help shape the campaign strategy, landing pages, and budget allocation.
Here’s the Opportunity for Your Agency
Most clients don’t want another spreadsheet showing impressions, clicks, and conversions.
They want to know how marketing will help grow their business.
When you initiate these conversations in October instead of waiting until January, you give yourself time to build a real plan.
And you position your agency as a growth partner, not just the company managing their ads.
There’s another benefit.
You can identify upcoming campaign changes, new landing page requirements, and fulfillment needs before your team is scrambling to execute them.
That’s how you enter 2027 with a strategy instead of a list of last-minute requests.
